SANYA DECLARATION AGREED AT THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF EMSR ON NOVEMBER 27, 2015 IN SANYA, CHINA

As the respond to the 21th century maritime silk roads initiative, the earth observations technology should respond strongly in the increasing demand of solving the problems of sustainable development in our increasingly populated planet, particularly in the countries along the Maritime Silk Road. The Earth observation is an integral part of advanced technologies involving remote sensing, navigation system, GIS, and other related technologies that will meet the need of living in sustainable and harmony living planet since there is huge potential for the application of Earth observations in the countries along the Maritime Silk Road. Therefore, Participants, from 28 countries, of the International Symposium on Earth observation for Maritime Silk Road (EMSR), scientists, practitioner, educators, administrators and other remote sensing stakeholders, agreed to set up a Collaborative Network for Earth Observation Science and Technologies along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. So, the declaration of the intention, called as “Sanya Declaration” was launched and agreed by all of the EMSR participants at the closing ceremony of 1st EMSR. The collaboration may includes research projects in fields of common interests; capacity building, bilateral or multilateral seminars and workshops, information exchange and sharing; strengthen liaison and coordination with industries, academia, professional sectors in the participating countries and other forms of cooperation as jointly decided upon by the participants, even though, it is not any binding obligation. The 2nd EMSR will be held in Hongkong, China in November 2017.
